The Camden area of Mid Coast Maine is an excellent vacation destination. Spending time on the water or hiking in the woods is easy when you’re surrounded by Penobscot Bay and Camden Hills State Park. There are daily wooden schooner rides in Camden Harbor, multiple hiking trails throughout the area, and plenty of restaurants with delicious food. Some local favorite attractions and activities include the following:
Hikes:
Maiden’s Cliff: A short hike leads to a beautiful view over Megunticook Lake. Take Rt. 52 out of Camden. After passing the Molyneaux Rd. intersection, continue straight until cresting a large hill. After you start to descend, the parking lot for the trail-head is on your right.
Mt. Battie: The iconic hike of Camden. If your staying in Camden, you can walk right to the trail-head. Follow Megunticook St. from town to the end. You’ll come to a small parking lot and signs for the top of Mt. Battie. Amazing Penobscot Bay views are a quick hike away.
Best Swimming Hole:
Fernald’s Neck Preserve: Follow directions to Maiden’s Cliff and continue. Take Rt. 52 until you come to a large left bend in the road. Take the first road on the left after the bend, Fernald’s Neck Road. Follow this to the parking lot at the end. Explore the trails and secret swim spots located throughout the preserve.
Local Favorite Restaurants:
Long Grain: We are lucky to have such an authentic Thai food restaurant in our small little town. For the finest Thai food around, please call and make a reservation at this amazing restaurant. Located downtown Camden. It can get rather busy, so reservations are usually required in the summer months.
Peter Otts: Always delicious. For great steak and seafood, along with a harbor view, this is the destination to go to.
